Feedback from MDO for Industrial Applications in Aeronautics

The Workshop took place on 19-20 November 2019.

The 2nd Workshop on “MDO for Industrial Applications in Aeronautics – Challenges and Expectations” took place on 19 and 20 November 2019 at the premises of the Institut Aéronautique et Spatial, 23 Avenue Edouard Belin, 31400, Toulouse. It was co-organised by the Institute of Research and Technology Saint Exupéry in Toulouse (France), ONERA (French Aerospace Lab) and DLR (German Aerospace Center).

During the workshop, the coordinator of MADELEINE Michaël Méheut (ONERA) gave an overview presentation about the project's challenges and first results.

This presentation was an integral part of the discussions about the Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) based on high- and multi-fidelity methods which have been intensively investigated during the last decades in academia and government research labs, and were shown to be promising tools for aircraft design. However, the perception exists that only limited transfer of formal MDO techniques into daily design work of aircraft and engine manufacturers has been achieved until today.

The ambition of the workshop was to establish a European MDO community and to enhance collaboration on this topic.
